HOW DOES A "HAVE" BECOME AN "UNHAV"?
Leave it to the Halifax to prematurely acknowledge Scotland's secession!

Danny McGettigan, a USA resident, visited his Halifax branch in Glasgow, Scotland in March 1997. Overhearing he was from the USA, a kind staff member took him aside to whisper that he must get a UK address so as not to miss out on the upcoming share distribution. Danny promptly heeded the advice.

On 10 June, he received the anxiously-awaited letter -- shown below -- acknowledging his change of address to a "permitted territory" and stating exactly how many shares he would be receiving.

After Danny received that letter, he got the following, sent to his Scotland address, explaining that his registered address, i.e. Scotland, was not in a "permitted territory"! Apparently Scotland was successful in achieving independence!

As of this date Danny has NOT received his shares. His enquiries have resulted in only the usual form letters. Danny had given up all hope until he read about UNHAVS in articles in the "Union Jack" and the "British Weekly", two ex-pat newspapers. This shows the importance of spreading the word by any means possible.
